The Rock House Art Collection is a study of polarity

The Rock House is conceived as a study in contrast — an experience of above and below, of weight and lightness, and of the ways architecture can hold both stillness and energy.

Our role

WRAP was engaged to deliver an In-Building Art Collection for a private client, which involved artist selection in close consultation with the owner and resident, concepting, interior design, and installation. Working closely with artists to craft bespoke pieces for the interiors or acquiring new works, Rock House is conceived as a dramatic moment.

The result

Below ground, the space unfolds as a rocky cavern, hand-finished by Clare Scanlan (Scanlan & Makers) with custom paint treatments that evoke the textures and tonal shifts of natural stone. The surfaces are raw and atmospheric, designed to feel grounded — a retreat that embraces the quiet density of the earth.

Above, the space opens into light. Here, lime-washed finishes (again created by the Scanlan & Makers team) create a subtle, tactile warmth — a surface that breathes, softening the connection between interior and landscape. The experience is one of natural calm — sunlight and shadow move gently across the walls, echoing the textures below but translated into a language of air and openness.

Together, these two realms, cavern and sky, form a single, crafted whole. The Rock House invites reflection on how we move through space — from the earth’s depth to the light above, always connected by material continuity and the human hand.
